Lions Club Charity Downhill Race and Legends Car Show Sunday - August 30, 2009
8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Pt. Fermin Park, San Pedro, CA

Racers will assemble cars from 7:00 am to 7:30 am. There will be a Check In at 7:30 am with a Weight In and Safety Check. The Opening Ceremonies are at 8:30am. The Downhill Races will be held from 9:00 AM. The cars will race on Gaffey Street from 38th Street and Gaffey toward Point Fermin Park with the finish line at 40th Street. The racers will be driven by youth and adults from the local community.

Rules & Conditions
Rules are subject to change

  1. Race entry fee $100.00.
  2. Drivers must be at least 8 years of age.
  3. Drivers must wear a helmet and goggles.
  4. All cars must have:
    1. A steering wheel with front axle steering not to exceed 5 degrees
    2. Brakes
    3. Free wheeling (no pedaling or motors)
  5. Car and Driver maximum weight 275 pounds*.
  6. Any Added weight must be bolted securely to the inside of the car.
  7. Race will be double elimination in each class.
  8. Car must be minimum 3 inches above ground.
  9. Car must be no more that 10 feet long*.
  10. No extensions permitted on the front end of race cars.
  11. Two cars will run at the same time.
  12. Race order will be by driver picked lottery.
  13. Pre-Race safety car inspection and weigh-in will be prior to race.
  14. No weight may be added after car weight in.
  15. Entry fee is due before: August 20, 2008.

Weight:
Combined weight of car and driver cannot exceed 250 lbs. (No weights may be changed after weigh in.)
The car may be built up to the maximum combined weight by the addition of wood, metal or masonry material. The additional weigh must be bolted down with no less than a 5/16 inch diameter bolt. All added weight must be inside the body of car and must not obstruct steering or brakes.

Steering:
The car must be equipped with a full or partial steering wheel.

Axle:
Front axle must be limited so it cannot be moved more than 1 inch nor less than 3/8 inch off center (straight ahead position) in either direction, forward or back. Measured at end of the axle spindle.

Brake:
The car must be equipped with a single drag brake capable of stopping the car safely. Design it so the brake, when pulled up, will meet the 3 inch ground clearance rule. Brake pad must be faced with a piece of tire tread, or effective material, having a contact area of at least 9 square inches flat on the ground when the brake is applied.
